If you live in the Dutch province of Flevoland and are considering a home battery, 2026 is a relevant year. From 12 January 2026, the Province of Flevoland offers a regional subsidy for home batteries, with a maximum contribution of €1,250 per household. This scheme applies specifically to residents of Flevoland and can be combined with solar panels under certain conditions.
What exactly does the home battery subsidy in Flevoland involve?
The province reimburses one quarter of your investment in a home battery. You receive 25 percent of the costs back, with a minimum amount of €750 and a maximum of €1,250 per home and electricity connection. The subsidy is calculated on the amount excluding VAT. You are allowed to combine this scheme with VAT recovery on your solar energy system.
The scheme starts on January 12, 2026 and runs until October 1, 2027, or until the budget is exhausted. A total budget of €1.75 million is available, spread across 2026 and 2027. Applications are assessed in order of receipt, meaning that submitting a complete application early improves your chances.
The subsidy is not only available to homeowners, but also to tenants in Flevoland. If you are renting, you do need written permission from your landlord. In all cases, you must live in the home for which you are applying for the battery yourself.
The technical requirements
The province sets several clear conditions for the battery and the situation in the home. The storage capacity of the home battery must be between 5 and 20 kilowatt-hours. If you choose a modular system with multiple units, the total capacity applies.
You must have solar panels or be able to demonstrate that you have recently purchased them. The province looks at proof of a down payment that is no more than three months old. This proof of payment may also not be dated earlier than January 1, 2026. You therefore cannot use the subsidy to retroactively reimburse older investments.
In addition, the battery must have a CE certification, be installed within six months of approval, and be registered on energieleveren.nl. If the battery has smart control, it must be connected to a so-called Energy Management System, which manages control and smart charging and discharging.
Why a home battery is becoming interesting now
Even without the subsidy, a home battery was already a logical next step after installing solar panels—especially now that the net metering scheme is likely to be phased out and feed-in compensation is declining. In a previous blog, we already wrote that the real value of solar panels lies in directly using your own generated electricity. A home battery significantly increases that direct self-consumption, because you store midday solar power for use in the evening and at night.
In practice, it’s simple. Without a battery, on sunny days you feed a lot of electricity back to the grid for a relatively low compensation, while at times without sunshine you purchase expensive electricity from the grid. With a home battery, you shift part of your own generation to the expensive hours. That saves euros on your energy bill and makes you less dependent on fluctuating tariffs.
On top of that, the electricity grid is reaching its limits in large parts of the Netherlands. By storing what you generate locally, you reduce strain on the grid during peak moments.
When are you eligible?
You live in Flevoland and it concerns the home you live in yourself. You are an owner or a tenant. In the case of renting, you have written permission from the landlord. You have solar panels or have just ordered them and can show a recent invoice or down payment. You choose a home battery between 5 and 20 kilowatt-hours with a CE certification, intended to store your own solar energy. You purchase or have the system installed on or after January 1, 2026 and submit your application with all required documents, such as a quotation, invoice, and proof of payment. You schedule the installation so that it is completed no later than six months after approval, and you register the battery as required by the province.
Important detail: you can apply for the subsidy either before the battery is installed, based on a quotation and down payment, or afterwards based on the invoice and full payment. You can also only make use of the scheme once per home.
How does DLE help you with this?
A home battery needs to match your solar panels, your consumption pattern, your meter cupboard, and possibly your heat pump or electric car. That’s why at DLE we always first look at the complete energy system in your home. In an initial conversation, we walk through your current situation with you. Based on that, we determine a logical battery capacity together. A small apartment with limited consumption requires a different system than a detached home with a heat pump and two electric cars.
We then translate that into a concrete proposal. We work with various systems, such as Enphase, Growatt, Sessy, SolarEdge, and Tesla home batteries. All batteries we install meet the requirements of the Flevoland subsidy scheme, so you can be sure that your installation qualifies for the maximum contribution. For each home, we determine which system fits best technically and delivers the most value in terms of price and functionality. In the proposal, we describe not only which type of battery we recommend, but also how we will connect it, whether your inverter needs to be adjusted or replaced, and which work is required in the meter cupboard.
Our installers then ensure a safe, neat installation and the configuration of the smart control system.
Ready to make use of the Flevoland subsidy?
If you live in Flevoland, have solar panels or are planning to install them soon, and are seriously considering a home battery, this is the moment to move forward. The province contributes to the cost, but the budget is not unlimited and applications are handled in order of receipt.
At DLE, we help you with a concrete plan for your home. We look at the best battery for your situation, ensure a safe and tidy installation, and think along with you about the substantiation for your subsidy application. If you want to know what a home battery with the Flevoland subsidy can deliver for you, contact us for a no-obligation advisory meeting.
